Neon Glass
Neon light is created by injecting either neon or argon gas into a thin
glass tube that has been bent to resemble either a letter or graphic design.
Many different letter styles (fonts) can be put to use, but the main catagories
are SCRIPT, BLOCK and OUTLINE. There are certain limitations to how
small a design or letter can be. Generally, letters can be no smaller than
about three-and-a-half inches (3.5") high, and the same applies to neon graphics.
A high-frequency transformer applies electricity to the ends (or electrodes)
of the glass tubes, and a current flows through the contained gas creating
a brilliant, glowing light. The 9000 volt transformer that comes with a sign
NeonSign.com offers can illuminate up to twenty (20 ft.) feet of neon tubing
per sign (ten feet of tubing for a 6000 volt transformer).
Special Design
Designs that are too simple or complicated for neon tubes alone can be
accented with colored vinyl, which is applied to the background acrylic
or the inside of the cover. This vinyl gives a unique and professional finish
that helps our neon signs stand out even more. In fact, many say it gives
a "3-dimensional effect." Nearly any color can be matched with neon and
vinyl.
Safety
Neon signs that NeonSign.com offers can come with a CLEAR POLYCARBONATE
COVER that helps protect the neon glass tubing and transformer. Call Ron at 916.408.3870 if you are interested in this option. Mounting brackets are also provided to make installing a
sign as easy as hanging a picture. Just plug it in and turn it on! Neon
has no filaments to burn out, generates little heat and can conceivably
stay illuminated twenty-four hours a day for years
